Ranger Meeting Points (RT1- RT5) - Hiking for everybody

RT 1: In the Southern part of the National Park, you encounter impressive views onto natural River valleys surrounded by peaceful greenland areas, which merge into a yellow carpet of wilde daffodils. This hike mostly leads through flat terrain.

Every Tuesday at 14:00 from the Parkplatz Wahlerscheid (optional: at 13:30 at the National Park-Gate in Monschau-Höfen) – located at the B258 from the direction Schleiden towards Monschau. About 200 meters behind the junction L245 Melmedy on the left hand side.

RT2: Commencing at the Abtei Mariawald (Monestry Mariawald), you will follow either an easily accessible tour or an alternative one for more advanced hikers. Come and enjoy the natural beech forests and the habitat of spotted and black woodpeckers. Every Wednesday at 14:00 from the parking lot Abtei Mariawald – at the road L245 close to the village of Heimbach.

RT 3: Hiking on either on a trail through the Dedenborn beech forest or on the Dreiborn plateau. Every Friday at 11:00 starting at the playground in the village of Simmerath-Erkensruhr.

RT 4: Wall lizzards and smooth snakes feel at ease along the RT 4 trail which starts at the National Park-Gate in Rurberg. Following steep and partly narrow passages the tour leads you to the Honigberg (honey hill) with nice views over the Eifel lakes. Back in the National Park-Gate you can visit the permanent exhibition “Lebensadern der Natur” (Life-Lines of Nature, free of charge!). There is the possibility, between april and october, to take a Rursee boat back to the Gate. The tour takes place every Saturday from 11:00 and starts at the National Park-Gate Rurberg.

RT 5: You will hike up through oak forests onto a height of about 525 m to the top of the Kermeter. Having taken the 94 stairs up the sightseeing tower in Wolfgarten, you will be rewarded with a fantastic view over the Eifel National Park. The exhibition at the starting point, the National Park-Gate in Gemünd, called “Knarled oaks, colourful woodpeckers and forest stories” nicely depicts the surrounding nature. RT 5 takes place every Saturday at 10:30 at the National Park-Gate Gemünd.
