Getting here by bus and train, or by car

Whether you are coming from Cologne, Aachen, Bonn or Trier, this is where you will discover how best to reach your destination

The information centres on the edge of the protected area, the so-called National Park Gates in Simmerath-Rurberg, Schleiden-Gemünd, Heimbach, Monschau-Höfen and Nideggen, give a good introduction to the National Park.
You can get an overview of the entire protected area from the "At a Glance" leaflet, from which the map below is taken. You can download it here or order it from our info centre.

Programmes for school classes and youth groups
The Cologne Regional Transport Association RVK (Regionalverkehr Köln) (in German) organises day-trips and longer package tours in the National Park, by coach or using the National Park Shuttle. You can download the relevant brochure here. For current prices please also visit RVK's travel pag (in German).

By train and bus...

Thanks to the railway stations in Kall and Heimbach, the National Park has good connections to the railway network. Buses travel from there to various different points in and around the National Park. The National Park bus schedule can be downloaded under "Local buses".

If you are coming from Cologne, it should take you around 1 ½ hours to reach the National Park Gates in Gemünd, Heimbach or Nideggen, or Vogelsang.
If you are coming from Aachen, it will take you a good hour to reach the National Park Gates in Höfen or Rurberg. You will need just over 1 ½ hours to reach Vogelsang. On Sundays from May to October there is even a cycle bus from Aachen to the National Park.
If you are coming from Trier, you should reach the National Park Gate of Gemünd, or Vogelsang in just under three hours.

Click on the relevant German Railway logo (DB - Deutsche Bahn) to search for connections to your chosen destination.

By car…

The National Park is easily reached from four motorways. The A1 autobahn runs down the eastern side of the park. The A4 runs along past it to the north. The A44 is to the northwest. And the E42/A27 starts in Belgium and runs west of the National Park.

You will see large signs on the German motorways mentioned here indicating the National Park. If you take the marked exits, you then just have to follow the signs to the nearest National Park Gate or to Vogelsang.
