Wildernis Outdoor Workshop - Wildniswerkstatt (WWD)
Visit the National Park with your school class! The Wildernis Outdoor Workshop - Wildniswerkstatt Düttling (WWD) is located between Heimbach-Hergarten and Heimbach-Düttling. Wildernis can be experienced by means of various approaches. At the WWD one can live wildernis, form wildernis, sense it or explore wildernis.
Accomodation is provided by the Nationalpark Guest House in Heimbach-Hergarten.
Are you ready for the real “wildernis”? The WWD is situated close to the in the eastern border of the National Park. Our program addresses school classes as well as other groups of kids and young people. The barrier free institution comprises an area of 100 hectares. National Park Rangers support your group in applying the preferred approach. Adjacent to the main hiking paths, you will find the tranquility necessary to enjoy nature in a unique way.
Our program can certainly be adopted to the needs of people with any kind of disabilities or kids with learning difficulties. Independent of the age, we provide flexible challenges also in an interdisciplinary approach if required. It is you that will choose the approach taken. Do you prefer to “live wildernis”, “form wildernis”, “sense wildernis” or “explore wildernis”?
Lunch will be held under a shelter, which serves as protection in case of bad weather. Look forward to a nice open fire BBQ!
Prices
Participation in this program is – such as all other offers for kids and young people - for free, since it is supported by the Landesbetriebs Wald und Holz NRW.
Timetable
The programm corresponds to the following time frame:
- 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: round table about the topic you’ve choosen
- 11:30 a.m. - 13:00 p.m.: preparation of the necessary equipement for lunch
- 13:00 p.m. - 15:00 p.m.: project work
- 15:00 p.m. - 16:00 p.m.: presentation of the results and feedback
Cooperation
Members of the National Park Team will support the groups while discovering the world of wild animals and plants. Rangers will ensure that everybody will get acquainted with the surrounding, the topic and the possibilities resulting from the subject choosen. After presenting the framework each group is asked to develop ideas for the group oriented projects within the “Wildniswerktstatt”. Teachers might document the results, participate in the projects or profit from the experience to study the behavior of the kids outside the classroom.
Packing list: Please take good shoes as well as reliable clothes for bad weather which might get dirty
Food: There is neither a shop nor a garbage bin in the forest. It is therefore of advantage to avoid carbage with respect to the food you bring.
Accodomation
Groups which decide to stay for a while we offer a National Park Guest House in Heimbach-Hergarten. The guest house is located adjacent the WWD and provides accommodation for 59 people. Please book via Rureifel Tourismus e.V. using the following contact information:

How to get there
The are surrouding the WWD is situated between Heimbach-Hergarten and Heimbach-Düttling. Following the B265 from Heimbach-Hergarten you will see a parking place with bus stop to your right hand side when exiting the village Hergarten. Here you will be picked up. A coarse map is attached below.
